Mandy no knees at Tung Lung

Back in Asia for the past few weeks, it has been a lot of work and travel, some hiking and climbing. The temperature has stayed up and we still have daytime temperatures of of 30C. Not the best for that project on the tinies, but still more manageable than in the summer. The past few weeks have seen trips to Lingnan, Tung Lung, Mount Parker, Majestic and Temple South. These venues contain most of the best climbs in Hong Kong in my view.

Her Majesty, on Majestic

Tung Lung Old Fool

Sea Gully

There is no fool like me. Having spent years climbing at Tung Lung, I took Mandy for our first trip. I thought I would try and sneak a route on the Tech Wall before the crowds, then head up to Sea Gully. Suffice to say the Tech Wall was a furnace and the Sea Gully a zoo by the time we got there. Age old lesson 'Sea Gully before Tech Wall and never at the weekend or on a holiday.' We did have a lovely boat trip and fried rice at Mr Wong's shop.

Majestic and Temple

I have spent my happiest climbing days in Hong Kong at these venues. They are both just a bit more out there in terms of access and have longer routes, albeit very well bolted. Unfortunately, both are suffering from a lack of traffic with much gardening needed. Mini saw a secateurs are essential. Also, best make a bit of noise to scare off the resident snakes.

Mount Parker, is that a project...

Two trips to a newer crag at Mount Parker. Lovely rock an remote location above the Police firing range. Various attempts at a 6C+, have led me to conclude that perhaps the route didn't the claimed first ascent. Either that, or the team were having a very good day. It's at least 7'too hard for me. That said, we all have to play to our strengths with the climbing game.

Go for it Mandy, its a jug!

The King and I

Have been breaking in a new partner. Always hard. Are they safe? Do the want to do similar things? Is their chat any good? Can they be arsed with mine? It is fair to say that Donald is a legend. A true climbers, climber. Most of his adult life has been dedicated to climbing, guiding, coaching and training others in the outdoors. An exceptional rock climber, compared to me, his ascents in Scottish winter and Norwegian Ice have been at the leading edge for many years. No ego, just a man in love with what he is doing. That said, I am still checking his knots.

We have a few days out with respective partners and its been the best of times. Happy, relaxed and just good fun. I do thing the female side of the teams is already long suffering in this so far short term experience. Great to see everyone, pushing on and spying the beta.

So many adventures to have...
